As soon as one of our favorite bands announces a comeback, we count down the days and can't wait to watch the music video! When the big day finally arrives, we'll watch the music video several times to enjoy it. But of course we want more. And we get that too!

The release of a new album is just the beginning! In the following weeks, a lot of videos will be released that revolve around the new songs and the idols will also promote the new album on various entertainment shows. So you will almost always find something new to occupy yourself with.

So that you don't miss anything as a new fan, we'll tell you which videos, specials and guest appearances you can look out for!

Music Show Stage

Even if you're a new fan, you're probably familiar with music shows like Inkigayo, Music Bank, and the like , where all kinds of K-pop stars perform every week. How often a band or solo artist performs their new songs there varies slightly, but they usually perform almost every day for two to three weeks. That means there are 10 or even more different music show stages of the new song!

At each stage, the idols wear new outfits, have different hairstyles, the stage is decorated differently and the video is filmed differently. So it's worth checking out every single one of them!

Dance Practice Video

In these videos we don't see the idols in glamorous stage outfits, but rather leggings and sneakers. The videos are also filmed in the usual training rooms and give us a glimpse of what the idols' dance rehearsals are like. In comparison to music show stages, we also mostly see the entire group throughout the entire video, without close-ups of individual members.

This also means that we see the overall choreography of the song even better than in the performances. That's why many fans use these videos to learn the choreography!

For holidays such as Christmas or Chuseok (a major Korean holiday in autumn), bands often release special dance practice videos in which they are, for example, dressed up or wearing traditional Korean clothing.

Performance Video

Performance videos are like stage performances, except they are recorded in advance rather than live. The idols wear stylish outfits and dance to their new song. There are no screaming fans to be heard in the background because the videos are usually recorded in a studio that is appropriately decorated. Since it's not a live performance, the quality is often much better.

Both dance practice videos and performance videos are usually filmed by the respective artist's agency and uploaded to the official YouTube channel.

Performance videos or live performances are often referred to as “special clips”. You can also search for new videos by name.

Relay dance, Band LIVE Concert & Be Original

These are all projects from different broadcasters, especially Mnet, where idols can present their songs in a different way.

Be Original is like a performance clip. However, the Be Original clips are known for being filmed in an empty white studio where the only decorations are different colors of light. They therefore appear very clean and tidy and thus once again focus on performance. Plus, they have a resolution of 4K!

In Relay Dance, the members of bands do not dance together to the song, but one after the other. After each line or part it's the next one's turn. Solo artists do the relay dance with their background dancers.

Band LIVE Concert is about singing instead of dancing. As the name suggests, the stars sing their new songs here with a live band. This often results in a slightly rockier version.

These formats have all been around for a few years now and are regularly filmed by popular K-pop artists. Of course, over the years it happens that a format is discontinued or a new one is added. We hope these will last for a long time!

Fan-Cam

Fan cams used to be the name for recordings of fans that show performances from a different perspective and often focus on a very specific member. Many music shows and Be Original are now publishing their own fan cams.

For example, a Nayeon (Twice) fancam shows Nayeon throughout the entire performance. During performances, the camera usually focuses on the entire group or the person singing/dancing in the middle. Thanks to this fancam, we also see Nayeon when she dances in the background and capture moments that we would otherwise miss.

Depending on the format, the fan cams are also called Close–up Cam or Unfiltered Cam.

All of these performances and special clips are perfect if you can't get enough of a song but don't want to watch the same video over and over again. This often leads to us liking a song even more because in many of these videos we notice little things and details that we didn't notice before.

As a rule, all of these videos revolve around the title song, but sometimes there are also individual appearances from a B-side from the album. This is especially the case with particularly popular and successful artists.

Behind-the Scenes

If you want to see something other than a performance, there are often countless “behind-the-scenes” (BTS) videos. Sometimes they are published by the format in which the artists appear and sometimes by the respective agency. How many videos like this there are is different for everyone. We can go behind the scenes and watch the artists prepare for performances or joke with their band members.

Cover Videos

Are you looking for variety? Then we recommend a few of the countless cover videos that you can watch on YouTube. There are many talented fans out there who learn the dances from new songs to record and upload later. They often join forces with others, form groups and perform together. They put on matching outfits and use all the props that the idols use. These are, for example, chairs, fans or cloths.

We particularly enjoy watching K-Pop in Public cover videos. The dancers perform in public; in parks, on streets or even in a shopping center. So the backdrop is different in each video and you can watch curious passers-by stopping to watch the performance. These videos come from all over the world because fans from Asia, Europe, America and Australia all share the same passion!

Variety Shows

Alternatively, there are plenty of idol entertainment shows you can watch. They air weekly and have different idols as guests each week:

  • Knowing Bros/ Men on a Mission
  • Weekly Idol
  • After School Club

In these shows, each guest talks about their new album and plays various fun games with the presenters. Each show is known for different games!

There are also other shows that don't revolve 100% around the idol guests like the Weekly Idol and Co, but often have idols as guests.

  • Running Man
  • Amazing Saturday
  • The King of Mask Singer

In our article about the best variety shows from South Korea, we introduce them all to you in more detail!

In between, many stars also film their own reality shows, so even if there's no comeback, you can still hope for something new! Have you already seen all of these videos of your favorite song or favorite star, or are you going to do so now?
