SM Entertainment has only just released the winter album “SMCU Palace”, featuring all of the agency's artists, and the next big project is already on its way. Just a few hours ago, the SM supergroup “GOT the beat” announced its first comeback with the mini album “Stamp On It”!
We have already introduced you to “Girls On Top”, the super girl group that brings together members from all SM Entertainment groups. It consists of BoA, Taeyeon & Hyoyeon (Girls’ Generation), Wendy & Seulgi (Red Velvet) and Karina & Winter (aespa).
Have you ever wondered why people sometimes say GOT the Beat and sometimes Girls On Top? GOT the beat is officially considered a unit of “Girls On Top”, GOT for short. Girls on Top is a project in which female SM artists come together in different units. No further units have been announced yet, so we're curious to see how the project develops.
GOT the beat debuted on January 3, 2022 with the single “Step Back”. Almost exactly a year later, on January 16, the supergroup is finally making its comeback! This time, a mini album called “Stamp On It” will be released. It is the first mini album and at the same time the first physical album from GOT the beat. So soon we'll finally be able to flip through a photo book of the group!
We don't know all that much about the album yet, except that it will be called “Stamp On It” and will be released on January 16. How many songs it contains hasn't been announced yet either. Since it's a mini album, though, we'll definitely get more than just one single this time! A poster, which presumably shows the cover, has also already been published on the official Girls On Top Twitter account.
Does all of this sound familiar?
In fact, last year went almost exactly the same way. In winter 2021, the SM Entertainment artists released the joint album “SMCU Express” and shortly afterwards, before the end of the year, a release from GOT the Beat was announced. Back then it was of course about the girl group's debut.
And those aren't all the similarities!
The debut song “Step Back” was performed for the first time at an SMTown concert on January 1, before GOT the Beat officially debuted later. It will be the same with the first comeback. On January 1, the concert “SM Town Live 2023: SMCU Palace @Kwangya” takes place. There, BoA, Taeyeon, Wendy and the others will perform their comeback song for the first time, even before the album is released. So we only have to wait a few more days for the first taste!
Step Back was a successful start for Got the Beat:
With the song, Got the beat won, among other things, 3 trophies on music shows in January 2021 and charted in Korea as well as in Japan and the United States. Step Back reached, for example, number 17 on the Korean Gaon Streaming Chart, number 15 on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 chart and number 5 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart. It even made it onto the Billboard Global 200!
For girl group fans, the debut of GOT the beat was above all a great start to the new year! What could be better than members of some of the biggest K-Pop girl groups teaming up?
