Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein have been known as “NewJeans” since their debut in July 2022. However, the girl group is still in a legal dispute with their former label “ADOR”, which is why they currently cannot use their previous name. Still, the five singers want to keep working together. That's why they announced their new name today!

Afterwards, the girl group opened a new Instagram account called “jeanzforfree” and asked their fans there to submit suggestions for new group names. In an interview with CNN, Hanni explained that the members spent a lot of time thinking about the fans' ideas until they chose a name that keeps the “essence” of the original.
“Even though we have to leave our former name behind for a while, we won't let go of it completely. And we don't want to, because (as NewJeans) that was still a very special time for us, and it's something that is probably very close to our fans' hearts as well.” - Hanni (CNN Interview)
NEWJEANS IS NOW CALLED ”NJZ”!
A few hours ago, the girl group officially announced their decision on Instagram. The account is now called “njz_official” and already has over 4.5 million followers. All these followers have reason to be happy, because Hanni revealed in the interview that NJZ will present a brand new song in March!
From March 21-23, the “ComplexCon Hong Kong Festival” takes place, where the K-Pop sensation will perform for the first time under their new name. The performance will be a turning point in NJZ's career, because it is supposed to differ greatly from the image NewJeans is known for.
