BIOGRAPHY

Hyun Bin (Korean: 현빈), born September 25, 1982, is a South Korean actor. He was born in Jamsil-dong, South Korea and grew up there with his parents and older brother. When he was in high school, an older student suggested he join the drama club and try acting. After taking part in a school play, he realized that he enjoyed acting. He made his final decision to become an actor after a key experience:

One day, while riding on a friend's motorcycle, a man shouted for them to stop. Hyun Bin's friend didn't have a driver's license at the time, so he kept driving. The man then followed her on the motorcycle to the end of the street. It turned out he worked for a talent management agency. The man gave Hyun Bin his business card and asked him to call him.

Hyun Bin's parents were initially against his dream of becoming an actor, and he tried to change their minds for two years. If he gets accepted into the prestigious university, they would approve of his career choice. Luckily, Hyun Bin was accepted into Chung Ang University. During his time at Chung Ang University, Hyun Bin worked as a lighting technician, directed the school theater and took part in school performances.
On January 1, 2021, it was announced that Hyun Bin is in a relationship with actress Son Ye Jin. The two met on the set of “Crash Landing on You.” Finally, they got married on March 31, 2022, which was his dream for a long time. Their first child together, a son, was born on November 27th of the same year.
CAREER

In 2003, Hyun Bin made his acting debut in the KBS drama "Bodyguard". His first role was a supporting role as Han Shin Ae's (played by Lee Se Eun) stalker. In the same year, Hyun Bin was also cast in the MBC drama "Nonstop 4". Renowned screenwriter In Jung Ok, who had already written the scripts for MBC dramas "Sunflower" and "Ruler of Your Own World", saw Hyun Bin's talent in "Nonstop 4" and introduced Hyun Bin to producer Kim Jin Man. In Jung Ok, Kim mentioned to Jin Man that she found him attractive and liked the way he talked.
In 2004, Hyun Bin starred alongside Lee Na Young, Kim Min Jun and Kim Min Jung in the MBC drama "Ireland", written by In Jung Ok and directed by Kim Jin Man. Although "Ireland" did not achieve high ratings, the series developed a strong fan base and received positive responses from critics. In "Ireland" Hyun Bin played the role of Kang-Guk, a bodyguard with severe helper syndrome.

Hyun Bin was cast in the 2005 MBC drama "My Name Is Kim Sam-soon" alongside Kim Sun A. Before filming began, Hyun-Bin prepared intensively for his role by taking piano lessons and practicing a cold, cynical way of speaking. The drama became a mega hit and achieved ratings of over 50%, which is one of the highest ratings for a Korean drama series. After the huge success of "My Name Is Kim Sam-soon", Hyun Bin chose the romantic film "A Millionaire's First Love" as his next project. Unfortunately, it was less successful and received poor reviews both at the box office and from critics.
In 2008, Hyun Bin starred in the film "I Am Happy", which premiered as the closing film at the 2008 Busan International Film Festival. Hyun Bin described the script of "I Am Happy" as a new challenge for him. He was supposed to portray a man suffering from mental illness and confined to a psychiatric hospital.

Hyun Bin was then cast in the KBS2 drama "Worlds Within......". He played the role of television producer Jung Ji Oh. Although the drama was not particularly successful, it received positive reviews from critics. Working on this drama also contributed to the development of Hyun Bin's personal life. During filming, he developed a relationship with lead actress Song Hye Kyo. After filming was completed in July 2009, they made their relationship public.
In 2009, Hyun Bin starred in the MBC drama "Friend, Our Legend", a remake of the hit 2001 film "Friend". The drama series was directed by Kwak Kyung Taek, who also directed the original film. Jang Dong Gun, who played the role of Dong-Su in the original film, supported Hyun Bin and even advised him before filming began. Unfortunately, "Friend, Our Legend" received a low audience rating of 10%. In interviews, Hyun Bin emphasized that he didn't want to be judged solely by ratings, but rather wanted to be recognized as an actor.

In 2010, Hyun Bin starred in the Korean-American film "Late Autumn", a remake of the 1966 Korean classic. Hyun Bin chose this role because he thought it would be fun to play this scenario. However, he was worried about the language barrier as the dialogues in the film were only in English. However, after speaking with the film's director Kim Tae Yong, Hyun Bin felt more confident since the character had only lived in the United States for three years and did not have to speak like a local. Therefore, Hyun Bin focused on portraying the character's emotions expressively.
Later in 2010, Hyun Bin was cast in the SBS romantic comedy "Secret Garden" opposite Ha Ji Won. This was the first time Hyun Bin starred in a romantic comedy in five years. On March 8, 2011, Hyun Bin and Song Hye Kyo's agencies officially announced that the two actors separated in January.

In 2011, Hyun Bin starred in two films: "Come Rain, Come Shine" and "Late Autumn". A special moment was walking on the red carpet at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival, where both films were shown. This was one of his greatest successes.
On March 7, 2011, Hyun Bin reported for 21 months of compulsory military service in the Marine Corps. After completing his mandatory service in the Marines, Hyun Bin participated in the “Seoul Reclamation Anniversary Marine Marathon Competition”. He was discharged from service on December 6, 2012. In 2013, Hyun Bin spent most of his time doing commercials shoot and hold fan meetings across Asia.
For his acting comeback after military service, Hyun Bin chose "The Fatal Encounter", his very first historical film. However, he was criticized for being too reserved and emotionless. After his role in the romantic drama “Hyde, Jekyll, Me” (2015), Hyun Bin founded his own agency called VAST Entertainment in 2016

After a two-year break, Hyun Bin returned to the big screen with the action thriller "Confidential Assignment" and then starred in the crime action film "The Swindlers" alongside Yoo Ji Tae. On December 15, 2016, it was announced that Hyun Bin and actress Kang Sora were a couple.
In 2018, Hyun Bin first took on the role of a villain in the crime thriller "The Negotiation". That same year, he returned to the screen with the fantasy-suspense drama "Memories of the Alhambra" alongside Park Shin Hye.
With the drama “Crash Landing on You,” Hyun Bin celebrated great success and touched fans worldwide. For his performance, he was nominated for the “Best Actor” Award at the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2020. In 2023, he devoted more time to films and was seen in “Harbin” and “The Point Men.”
